Champ
Champ is a certified therapy dog through Pet Partners, bringing warmth and comfort to everyone he meets. At just two years old, this Labrador Retriever has already made a significant impact in the therapy room, where his handler, an associate Marriage and Family Therapist, incorporates him into sessions with clients working through anxiety, trauma, and emotional regulation. Champ’s playful, enthusiastic greetings instantly light up the room, but his true gift lies in his calm and steady presence, providing a sense of safety and grounding for those who need it most.
Working alongside his handler, Champ is more than just a furry companion—he’s an integral part of the therapeutic process. Research shows that therapy dogs like Champ can lower stress hormones, increase oxytocin (the “feel-good” hormone), and help individuals manage overwhelming emotions by offering nonjudgmental support and companionship. For clients struggling with anxiety or trauma, Champ’s gentle demeanor and attentive nature foster trust and help them stay present in the moment, making difficult feelings more manageable. The routine and structure of working with a therapy dog also encourages healthy habits and emotional stability.
When Champ isn’t working, he loves spending time with his best friend Buster and sister Dolly. He enjoys long walks, and his favorite game is hide and seek with his handler’s keys, a playful ritual that brings joy and laughter to everyone involved. Whether he’s supporting clients, volunteering, or playing with his friends, Champ’s loving presence makes a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.
